Cadillac and Bar, Kingston, NY, 1974

Cadillac and Bar, Kingston, NY , 1974. At the time I made this image, I was one of the only fine art color photographers in the world. That is because the US was the center of fine art photography, and in the US, almost no one was doing it. I know that because I took my portfolio around a lot of galleries in New York City and they wouldn't touch it because they said it faded. Well, here it is. Did it fade? I believe my color fine art photography from that period may be among a handful that survived. I processed my film in a special way. As a last step, I put it through a bath of formaldehyde! Now, with the film scanned, it will last forever!

15"x17" image of a bar near Kingston, NY with a shiny new Cadillac in front of it in 1974. Things suggest meanings when put together. What does a brand new shiny Cadillac make you think when in front of what appears to be a blue collar bar? It seemed out of place to me. When I saw it, I wondered, but I never pursued it. The image was printed darker, with a touch of magenta, to suggest the late afternoon light on a cludy late fall day.

The image is printed on 17"X22" exhibition fiber paper. Limited Edition of 50. Titled, Signed, and numbered under image. Museum matted to 30"X24". Mat cut by Archival Methods. Shipped in an AirFloat Systems PrintPad, which is reusable and makes a great way to store or move flat art.
