Asteroids

Asteroids

Asteroids- 14" X 20" non
camera image of what appears to be icy asteroids. It was made in the fall of 1972, when I was a beginning graduate student in photography. I do not belive anyone else has done this.
There is a type of image making called photograpms whereby you put objects directly on the paper and then expose it to light. I tried putting "industrial strenth Knox gelatine on the paper and it didn't look very interesting. I then put a clear piece of film in the negative carrier of the enlarger, that was my light source, and put chunks of "Jello" on that and enlarged it. Next, I hunted around the "lightfield" for something interesting. This was one of my first successful images. Originally, it was a 5"X7" print. In the 1990, I photographed it with a large format camera and made an 8X10 print or two I don't know what happened to them. When digital technology came around, I scanned the large format film. Just recently, I revisited that film, made adjustments, removed defects, and made this print. It is printed on 17"X22" Epson Exhibition Fiber paper. It is titled and numbered on the lower left, and signed and dated on the lower right, in archival pen.
